Upset over the Rebound investigation that blasted him for his low bid and subsequent work on the golf course that he operates, Curt Zander fired off an angry letter to city officials, calling it a “felonious attack,” promising “the gloves are coming off” and concluding: See the entire email here https://wordpress.com/post/thenorthbeachnews.com/563
“Why are you going after the golf course? Who is behind this? Why are you stirring the pot???”
After some knee-jerk (emphasis on the latter) reactions to my reporting on the audit and the OS Golf Course tax returns shared by the North Beach News, let me be perfectly clear (to borrow a phrase) on a few points: -I never said (or even thought) Curt Zander and his wife are paying themselves tooContinue reading ““Why are you going after the golf course? Tax returns show how much OS Golf Course makes
Though Curt Zander failed repeatedly to provide financial reports, as required by his lease with the city… … Even so, there are ways of figuring out some of the golf course’s finances. A North Beach News review of the Ocean Shores Golf Course tax returns (provided promptly after a public records request to the city)Continue reading “Tax returns show how much OS Golf Course makes”
‘How much have (and will) firefighter complaints cost OS?’
It’s an excellent question; I will attempt to dig in. Pretty sure it will be dozens of times more than $50,000 (the high end for what citizens’ complaints about the golf course cost the city, via audit)
How can you see what’s in the soup…
If you don’t “stir the pot”?
Golf Course lease defines default
It has been clearly established that Curt Zander failed to file the financial reports spelled out in the lease (pasted again, below). The city’s “action plan,” released yesterday, basically is to have Zander follow the lease. According to the lease:
Audit of the golf course: why it matters
The city report on the state audit suggests citizens who complained about the golf course operations were needless and a waste of money (about $50,000). Yet why wasn’t the financial director, whose very job should be focused on city revenues, expenditures and contracts, concerned about golf course operator Curt Zander for years blowing off theContinue reading “Audit of the golf course: why it matters”
‘Clean’ audit, but…
The Office of the Washington State Auditors Exit Conference, presented by Finance Director, Angela Folkers, reported a “clean” audit. But the audit confirmed the city is NOT receiving monthly financial reports from the OS Golf Course, as the lease requires. The presentation seemed to fault the complaints of multiple citizens for “additional audit costs”…but don’tContinue reading “‘Clean’ audit, but…”

Not enough votes left to change NB School District results
With 121 ballots remaining to be counted by Grays Harbor County Elections, could the North Beach School District levy–currently passing by just 57 votes–swing the other way? Not a chance, as, Election Administrator Scott Turnbull advises: “55 out of the 121 are for North Beach.” (The $110 million construction bond request by the district wasContinue reading “Not enough votes left to change NB School District results”
