The Politics of Golf, Part 6: ‘Labor Bogey’

How did the golf course become so intertwined in local politics? Under a long-term lease (more on that, later), Curt Zander leases the Ocean Shores Golf Course. Another of his companies, Turf Care, was the extreme low bidder (more on that also, later) and awarded a repair contract. Alerted by a whistle blower, Rebound’s executive director claimed Zander violated “prevailing wages” and other guidelines regarding public projects. As shown in the email exchange, Zander was hit with fines for the “bogey”:
